Just wrote this piece down.

The wonders or having music notation software. These days, it plays back what you’ve written down. It saves me the time of going over to the keyboards to play and imagine what it sounds like on the brass or woodwind.

While doing that, I’m running an 8 track recording from Cakewalk.

Maybe if I have save a little bit, I can get a 5 to 8 channel RAID card. Now I’ll make do with this software RAID. Response is slow, I can feel it on the seek times when compared to the hardware raid. I just took out one of the slower disks so now its running on 4.

But it’s not everyday that I will transfer 40GB virtual hard disks between partitions so I’ll live with it for now.

I have intend replaced my 9 year old Altec Lansing 4.1 pc multimedia speaker.

That means I can’t post any music stuff yet. 

I started to write another song, nice harmony, but I’m wondering how is it, I’m going to give a good vocal arrangement which sonds smooth and lay down a rock feel for the accompaniment. 

Well if it turns out fine, I could have a nice song that’s fine done accapella, or backed by traditional organ or rock band. 

That would be great! Cool! Magnifique!

PCMCIA (PC card) slots, USB, all not working.  No way to extract my data.  The laptop was being used by my dad to view video CD’s with grandma over at her place.

So I reinstalled Solaris 64bit on my workstation again.  Time consuming task that.

I zoomed out for an hour or so, to get some SATA power cables, CD soft-case and a 2.5inch notebook IDE to 3.5inch drive interface ATA-100 connector.

Hard disk extracted, ready for data-recovery.

Opened the laptop, extracted the hard-drive.  Painstakingly reassembled the casing.  Made sure pin 1 was  correctly connected on the interface.  Wired it up to a workstation, boot up and copied everything in that 4GB hard drive.  Never knew it would take so long.

At least now, I can take a look at my old music scores again.  You see, the laptop died at the start of this year.  Glad I didn’t buy new PC cards for it.

I had the time to go connect the SATA power cables on another workstation and initiate defragmentation on the drives.

Here’s where the CD storage softcase is going to be handy.  I’m not going to look at another software / Operating System CD for the rest of the month.
